Additional Information

It was in 1999 when I first experienced the delight of my future home district when I rode the twelve miles from Cross Plains to Mazomanie with Jack, the man I would eventually marry. The natural beauty of the area made such a strong impression on me, it was easy to envision our life together in rural Dane County.

As our family grew, I became more involved in the community because I wanted to give back to the town that had given so much to me and our family. I started by volunteering as an election worker, and not long after began teaching math, computer, and art classes at our local public school to help out in our children’s classrooms.

From there, I eventually found enrichment volunteering for my daughter’s Girl Scout troop and coaching and assistant coaching two of my children’s basketball teams. Since the natural beauty of the area made such a strong impression on my husband and me, we became leaders in the awareness of International Dark Skies, an organization dedicated to fighting light pollution and its detrimental effects on the local wildlife and human health.

After more than fifteen years of involvement in the town of Cross Plains, I was excited when my friend Abigail Wuest approached me about serving on the Dane County Board of Supervisors. She was looking to make some changes in her life and one of those involved moving out of the district. She asked me if I would be willing to apply to take her seat after she left. Cross Plains and the surrounding towns and villages had given me so much that I was honored to accept such a wonderful opportunity to give back. When I applied for the position, I was unanimously approved by the Board.   One of my greatest opportunities in my new job was when I was assigned to the Environment, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee, giving me the opportunity to preserve the natural beauty of the district and expand on things like the bike paths that brought me to the town of Cross Plains in the first place.

The opportunities that my district has given to me are too numerous to list, and I am grateful for them every single day. Though I’m an appointee now, this was never my goal or intention. I’ve always thought of myself as an engaged citizen, and still do to this day. I’m on the County Board because I care about people and ideas, not politics, and I’m running to retain my seat because I know how much our citizens can accomplish when we work cooperatively together for the good of our community. This idea, of volunteerism and public service, have been my guiding principle since moving to Cross Plains, it’s what motivated me to apply for the seat I currently honor, and it’s why I’m asking you for your vote now.
