Kierstin Huelsemann is excited to represent District 27 as a Dane County Supervisor. She knows what it is like to navigate the systems of Dane County as a parent of children with unique needs, as someone with Dyslexia and complex health concerns (including Osteogenesis Imperfecta type IV), and as a working-class stay at home parent. She is committed to advocating for clean and open government, and the involvement of those most impacted by racial and economic injustice. Kierstin has been a Wisconsin resident since 1987. She has four children with her high school sweetheart husband, Ryan.
Kierstin graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 2002. She attended Madison Area Technical College for nursing but switched her focus to Early Childhood Education following a back injury while working as a CNA. Unfortunately, Kierstin was not able to complete her degree due to unexpected hardships, including pregnancy complications. While attending MATC she found a love for psychology and sociology, which she plans to apply to her work as a Supervisor.
After years of experiencing housing and income instability, Kierstin and her family worked with Habitat for Humanity to become first-time homeowners in Fitchburg’s Allied/Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood in 2019. She plans to use her unique perspective from living in many different communities throughout Dane County to build effective coalitions to tackle the problems we face. She strives to bring active and progressive representation to the County Board, knowing firsthand that together we can make a tangible difference in one another’s lives and build safe, healthy, and equitable communities by investing in human services, affordable housing, and people-centered initiatives.
